Challenge

Simplify an already-successful photo printer line for busy moms and technically-challenged grandparents.

For the launch of a new line of friendly photo printers, Seiko Epson Japan chose gotomedia to conduct an aggressive series of usability tests and interface recommendations concurrently with their Japanese engineering efforts. Starting with wireframes, interface concepts and modifications to button placement, gotomedia tested seven rounds of prototypes resulting in a more friendly and usable design. The final recommendations included the use of soft keys and other user interface (UI) elements, and testing confirmed the simplified effort was positively received by the target audience of moms and grandparents. Seiko Epson Japan implemented the recommended changes in interface for their new line of printers, released in the fall of 2006.
